Summary

Fungal and oomycete diseases are a major cause of fungicide use in Swiss vineyards.
Soil management and other agricultural practices can contribute to protect crop plants against pathogens. These practical approaches can contribute to reduce the disease pressure on the plants and are particularly needed in organic agriculture, which cannot use fungicides, except copper.
We will evaluate the resistance to P. viticola in commercial and experimental vineyards with long-term soil fertility management trials and assess the impact of environmental conditions on expression of defence reactions. In this context we will also evaluate if these effects are due to priming or inducing resistance in the plant.
